Fostering Canadian Integration for IEHPs: From Learning to Action
Saint Paul University’s School of Leadership, Ecology and Equity, in partnership with N4, has developed this program to help Internationally Educated Healthcare Professionals (IEHPs) gain the non-clinical skills necessary to be successful in healthcare jobs in Canada.
This 12-week program is designed to accompany and support IEHPs with the challenges of finding their place in Canada. It is based on an integrated development model that focuses on knowledge, skills and identity-making. The program allows IEHPs to develop non-clinical skills and knowledge to support their successful integration in Canada while forming a learning community through exercises of personal development and reflective practice. It is training that welcomes and helps IEHPs leverage their expertise in a new cultural context.

Natalie Acosta
Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN) Participant in the N4/SPU IEHPs Online Program
97% of participants agree that the program helped them develop a network of peers who can help them understand and undertake the licensure processes in Canada.
As a physician trained abroad, I had a certain view of myself and my role as a healthcare professional. At the program's start, I did not realize the importance of cultural intelligence and cultural diversity in healthcare delivery. I used to think that my knowledge and skills were sufficient to provide effective patient care. However, throughout the program, I learned to understand better the importance of empathy, generative listening and effective communication to understand better the needs and perspectives of my patients and colleagues.
