The COVID-19 pandemic has both exacerbated and highlighted the strain on the Canadian healthcare system, including the shortage of healthcare workers, frequently referred to as the health human resource (HHR) crisis. At the same time, many internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs) are unable to work in their fields in Canada due to barriers in having their credentials and licensing recognized, among others.
The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), in collaboration with the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), recently called for getting internationally trained providers into the workforce as one key step in easing the HHR crisis.
IRCC has recently announced additional funding for N4, allowing N4 to expand its work to support IEHPs in gaining full employment in their fields.
Here are some of the things that we’ve done so far:
-
Launched a new educational program, Fostering Canadian Integration for IEHPs: From Learning to Action, in partnership with Saint-Paul University – pre-registration is open now.
-
Held a webinar titled, The Role of Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs) in Addressing Canada’s Health Human Resource Crisis: Ending Underutilization through Systems Change, with speakers from World Education Services (WES) - this webinar (and all our webinars) are available on-demand to N4 members. Register to be an N4 member today!
-
Begun building IEHP-specific resources on the N4 platform.
