The prophetic words of Dr. Martin Luther King and two very big lessons learned from 2020: Martin Luther King said: “There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right.”
We must admit, these words resonate loudly in the context of the global civil rights uprising and the pandemic of 2020. The collective raising of consciousness that resulted from the brutal publicly aired killing of George Floyd , ignited worldwide protests and a global outcry for racial justice. The momentum of this global civil rights movement must continue through 2021, and as long as it takes to eliminate racism and discrimination. If you want to learn more about what you can do to counteract racism and discrimination, visit our e-learning collection.
Dr. King also said: “We may all have come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.”
How prophetic, given the current pandemic which has really forced the world to unite to combat our common enemy: COVID-19. We have become aware that this virus spares no-one and that we must act collectively to eradicate it. If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that attitudes of individualism are not going to help us, it is the spirit of collectivity that will lead us out of this dark era.
