On April 13th, the N4 Team was thrilled to re-connect via a virtual event with over 50 professionals from the health and settlement sectors across Canada to share findings from the newly released, Newcomer Navigation: Report on N4 Outreach and Site Visits. The N4 Team was pleased to hear feedback from those who participated and hear ideas about how the report findings could be leveraged.
To inform the development of its N4 Platform and online certificate program in newcomer navigation with Saint-Paul University, N4 undertook a pan-Canadian needs assessment of both sectors beginning in July 2019. Recognizing that there were a wealth of existing resources, training and subject matter experts in newcomer navigation within the health and settlement sectors, N4 began by conducting a national needs assessment. The aim was to curate and mobilize this knowledge, understand the remaining gaps in knowledge to be addressed, plan to fill those gaps, and foster connections, collaborations and learnings among the various professionals across Canada. This report summarizes the methodology and learnings from the 1st phase of the needs assessment, as well as describe the implications for N4.
A successful outreach and engagement strategy led to connections made with over 400 stakeholders from 125 organizations across Canada. During these visits, the N4 Team committed to updating participants about what was learned, how the information was used to inform the development of N4 and how N4 can continue to support professionals with providing equitable services for newcomers. It was a pleasure to re-connect with so many like-minded professionals who share a common goal to provide equitable services for newcomers as the N4 Team shared findings from the report for the first time during the April 13th N4 Re-Connect Event. The N4 Team looks forward to continuing to chart the course together in newcomer navigation with the diversity of professionals who make up the National Newcomer Navigation Network.
