SMILE Canada - Support Services was formed in 2008 to address the barriers that children with disabilities and their families face in Canada, specifically from underserved and underrepresented communities that hold intersectional identities of racialization, newcomer status, and disability. Over 1000 families are registered with SMILE and located in over 25 cities across Canada. SMILE's focus is supporting racialized families who require tailored service navigation in the following languages: Urdu, Arabic, Farsi, Dari, and Somali, as they often face unique and compounded challenges, including systemic discrimination, limited access to resources, and cultural and language barriers. SMILE supports families through multiple programs and services in a culturally responsive manner while also developing educational resources to ensure sustainable efforts in creating inclusive spaces. Services include: service navigation, hospital support, parent coaching, and more.
